Participant Information

Independent evaluation of the Sainsbury’s Inclusive PE Training Programme

What is the purpose of the study?

The purpose of this study is to provide evidence of the impact of the Sainsbury’s Inclusive PE Training Programme on workshop participants, your school colleagues and your pupils. We want to find out whether and why this CPD works (for whom and under what circumstances) and identify areas for improvement which will inform the on-going development of the programme.

Who is doing this research and why?

A research team based in the University of Birmingham (Principal Investigator: Dr. Kyriaki Makopoulou; Co-Investigators: Prof. Kathleen Armour, Prof. Gary Thomas and Prof. Nikos Ntoumanis) has been commissioned by the Youth Sport Trust to carry out this independent evaluation. The evaluation will be carried out over three years (May 2013 - May 2016).

What will I be asked to do?

You have been asked already to complete two questionnaires: one at the beginning of the workshop and one at the end of the workshop. This third online survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. We ask you to provide your date of birth (rather than your name) in order to be able to match your responses over time without disclosing your identity.

Once I take part, can I change my mind?

Yes. Each time you complete a questionnaire, you give your informed consent to participate in the study. However if at any time, before, during or after the completion of any of the three questionnaires you wish to withdraw from the study, please contact Kyriaki providing your date of birth and date you attended the workshop so your responses are located and removed. You can withdraw for any reason and you will not be asked to explain your reasons for withdrawing.

Will my taking part in this study be kept confidential?

Yes. All procedures have been approved by the University of Birmingham Ethical Review Committee. All information provided will be treated in strict confidence and all hard copies of the questionnaires will be kept securely in a locked office. According to university regulations, all data will be preserved and accessible for ten years. All identifying information will be changed so that any records kept will be anonymous (complying with the University's Data Protection Policy and the University's Records Management Policy). Research data related to future publications might be available for discussion with other researchers, but any identifiable information will not be disclosed at any given point.

What will happen to the results of the study?

The results of the study will inform the development of the Sainsbury’s Inclusive Teacher Training Programme so that meaningful professional learning experiences are offered to participants. To this end, reports will be submitted to the funders every six months. Results will also be presented at academic conferences and published in academic journals.

What do I get for participating?

A summary of the findings of the project can be provided upon request.
